Simple tips for a calm, happy and memorable experience at Studio27 Photography

Your baby’s first professional photoshoot is a moment you’ll treasure for the rest of your life. At Studio27 Photography, we’ve photographed thousands of little ones from just days old to 12 months, and one thing parents always tell us is:
“I’m so glad we did this — the images mean everything.”

To help your session go smoothly and to make sure you get the very best portraits, here’s our friendly guide on how to prepare your baby for their first photoshoot.

1. Keep Your Baby Comfortable

Comfort is everything. Babies photograph beautifully when they feel safe, warm and settled.
A few simple tips help enormously:

• Dress them in loose, easy-to-remove layers to avoid marks on their skin.
• Bring their favourite blanket or comforter — it helps them relax.
• If your baby uses a dummy, please bring it along (even if only used occasionally).

Our studio is kept warm, cosy and calm so babies feel instantly at ease.

2. Plan Around Their Natural Routine

Happy babies = happy photos.
Try to work with your baby’s natural rhythm:

• For newborns, anytime is usually fine.
• For older babies (3–12 months), mid-morning is often best when they’re bright and rested.

Don’t worry if naps, feeds or mood change on the day — it’s completely normal. We work at your baby’s pace so the session feels relaxed, not rushed.?

3. Feed Before You Arrive (and Feel Free to Feed During)

A content, well-fed baby is more settled and easier to photograph.

Please give them a feed just before you set off, and feel free to pause anytime during the session — we allow plenty of time for breaks.

4. Bring a Few Outfit Options

At Studio27 we provide a carefully curated selection of props, wraps, outfits and accessories, but feel free to bring a couple of your own favourites too:

• A simple white or neutral baby grow
• A special outfit given as a gift
• A sentimental item you’d love included in the images

We’ll guide you on what works best on camera.

5. Keep Your Mood Light and Relaxed

Babies pick up on our energy. If you’re calm, smiling and relaxed, your baby will feel safe and happy — and it always shows in the portraits.

We do all the hard work for you. You can simply sit back and enjoy watching your little one create beautiful memories.

6. Expect a Variety of Images

In your baby’s first photoshoot we’ll capture:

• Beautiful portraits
• Tiny details (lashes, toes, fingers)
• Family images (if you’d like to be included)
• A mixture of poses, close-ups and natural expressions

No two babies are the same — we tailor the session completely to your little one.

7. Don’t Stress About “Perfect Behaviour”

This is so important:

Your baby does not need to be perfectly behaved.

They can wiggle, cry, nap, feed, or take breaks — it’s all normal and absolutely fine. We are highly experienced with newborns and babies, and we adapt everything to them.

Some of the most precious photographs come from those in-between moments.
